This course discusses anatomy and physiology of the heart,
electrical conduction system, basic rhythm interpretation with appropriate
interventions for cardiac/medical/trauma patients. It will build and
expand upon your current knowledge base, address nursing care issues,
appropriate medical treatment regime, and pharmacological interventions.
The respiratory system and how it affects the cardiopulmonary vascular
system will be reviewed to include anatomy and physiology overview, ABG
interpretation, basic and advanced life airway management such as oxygen
therapy, intubation, along with a brief overview of ventilators. This
course is for RNs and LPNs who work in ICU/CCU, emergency department or
associated critical care areas.

Critical incident stress is the aftershock of dealing with an
emotional, traumatic, or life-threatening event. This course will
define stress and critical incident stress (CIS), identify the components of
personal and occupational stress, list the elements of acute and delayed
CIS, and specify strategies for combating CIS during and after an incident.
Participants will develop techniques for dealing with the emotional response
to CIS and learn to aid one's family in dealing with one's own CIS
reaction. The procedures involved in a critical incident stress
debriefing are discussed, and an opportunity to participate in a mock stress
debriefing is provided. This overview course is an educational tool,
not a therapy/counseling opportunity. This course is designed for
people in high-stress healthcare positions, especially appropriate but not
limited to emergency room and other critical care areas.

adolescents with type one diabetes as well as the management of gestational
